If you don't currently have a payment gateway, you'll need to acquire one to use with your Txt2Give account. Don't worry, it's not as hard as you may think, and in some cases can be done in a matter of minutes.
Deciding which one is right for you is really a matter of cost, how good their support is, and whether it's compatible with our platform.
There are a lot of choices for payment gateways, and a lot of them have different cost structures. Some will have per transaction fees but no monthly fees or set up fees. Others will have all of these fees, and even hidden fees like PCI compliance fees, statement fees, etc.
You need to be diligent when researching gateways and their costs.
We recommend finding a company that will provide both a merchant account and payment gateway all in one, with only per transaction fees.
While the per transaction fees can vary from provider to provider, the industry standard is somewhere around 3%. If you're paying more than that for a your merchant and gateway fees, you're paying too much.
It's also important that the company you choose has a great support team with a quick turnaround time. In the event you have an issue with one or more transactions, like a transaction that fails unexpectedly, you'll need to work directly with their support team to get the issue resolved. The companies providing the gateway will not talk to the Txt2Give support team about specific transactions since we aren't the owner of the gateway account.
The last thing to consider is compatibility with Txt2Give. We currently integrate with 16 different payment gateways and counting! To see a list of compatible gateways, check out the list here.
A company we recommend frequently is Stripe. Why?
- No monthly fee
- No setup fee
- Industry-standard fee structure of 2.9% + 30¢ per transaction (2.3% for any transactions made using Txt2Give!)
- Instant approval in most cases. You can have your Stripe account ready to connect to Txt2Give and make donations in just a few minutes.
We of course support many other payment gateways that you can choose from.
If you are a 501(c)(3) ministry, we recommend MyWell.org, as they provide their service at their cost, which they tell us is generally 1.75% per transaction on average.
